MEET THE NEW BOSS

Régis Le Bris is all set to become Sunderland’s new manager. Most fans won’t know much about the Frenchman, so we’ve put together some information, to help you look like an expert before the new season kicks off.

Le Bris played as a defender for French clubs Rennes and Laval, as well as Belgian club Ronse. He also played for Frances international setup with the under 15’s 16’s and 17’s, at all levels he was known for his dedication and hard work.

After his retirement from on field action he set out on his coaching career. Le Bris started as a youth coach for Wasquehal before joining the youth sector of Rennes. While coaching Rennes’ under-19 squad, he had success, leading the team to victory in the Championnat National U19 and winning the Coupe Gambardella the following year. His impact extended beyond the youth teams, as he coached several players who later joined the first team, including talents like Mattéo Guendouzi, Illan Meslier, Alexis Claude-Maurice, and Enzo Le Fée.

In July 2012, Le Bris moved to Lorient, where he continued his youth development work. He coached the under-17 squad to victory in the Championnat National U17 in 2015. Later, he became the manager of Lorient’s reserve team, nurturing young talent and preparing them for professional football.

In May 2022, Le Bris obtained a professional coaching license, and on June 27 of the same year, he was appointed as the head coach of Lorient’s first team. In his debut season, he guided the team to a respectable tenth-place finish in the league. Despite their subsequent relegation to Ligue 2, Le Bris extended his contract with Lorient until 2027.

Now, he’s set to take on a new challenge. On July 1, 2024, Le Bris will become the head coach of the Black Cats. His experience in youth development and his track record makes him an exciting addition to the club. As he steps into his new role at Sunderland, fans eagerly await what he’ll bring to the pitch.
