OUR TOP THREE STRIKER PICKS

With the transfer window in full swing It’s no secret that Sunderland needs a goal scoring striker, so we’ve picked our top three targets. We know they may not be the most realistic choices given the clubs financial restraints, but we think any of these would help fire us into a promotion pushing season.

Sammie Szmodics

OK so the first man on our list isn’t technically a striker, but the Irish attacking midfielder scored 27 goals in 44 league appearances last season, often leading the line like a natural striker. He’s excellent at holding the ball up and making driving runs when his team are on the counterattack, so ticks a lot of boxes.

Blackburn have reportedly slapped a 20 million price tag on Szmodics so a huge investment would be needed to secure him. He’s also attracting interest from Premier League clubs so his agent would likely demand a bumper contract.

Current Club: Blackburn

Asking Price: 20,000,000

Adam Armstrong

Some Sunderland fans may not be happy with us for this one, due to Armstrong cutting his teeth with Newcastle United. However, after scoring 21 goals and bagging 13 assists in 46 league appearances last season he can’t be ignored.

Armstrong is reported to be valued at around 15 million, but it’s not known what Southampton’s asking price would be. We also don’t know what plans The Saints have for the striker next season, surely, he has earned another crack at playing in the Premiership? Wages could be a roadblock on this one, as it’s reported that he’s currently on £33.000 a week.

Current Club: Southampton

Asking Price: Unknown (valued at £15,000,000)

Josh Sargent

The American centre forward is on the younger side of this list at 24 but has played a lot of games in the Championship and has Premiership experience. He’s been improving year on year but was unlucky last season when he picked up an ankle injury that needed surgery, he still bagged 16 goals in 26 games.

Sargent has been linked with a move to Leeds and Premiership outfit Wolves, with Norwich reported to be asking for 20 million to secure his services. Wages could become a problem with this one, as Sargent is reported to be on a £25,000 a week and no doubt his agent will demand a hefty pay rise.

Current Club: Norwich

Asking Price: £20,000,000
